“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”
– Lawrence Pearsall Jacks –
Driven, passionate professionals are often consumed by their work. As the quote describes, they can hardly distinguish between work and play. If this describes you, then you likely lead a busy lifestyle, with little time to appropriately manage the full spectrum of your personal finances. That’s where the ongoing Financial Fitness program comes in. Its purpose is to provide driven, passionate professionals with an ongoing process of developing and modifying their life goals, and determining whether and how they can continue to meet those goals through proper management of their financial resources.
Our Value & Approach

Our approach centers around a few key themes. The first of these is work hard, play hard. We strive to be driven and passionate in everything we do and so should you. This tends to be easier when you’ve found your purpose, something that provides direction for your life and your goals. Ideally, it manifests in your career, providing you with lifestyle balance. The longer you can work and enjoy that work, the more you can enjoy your life in your earlier years. For many, your career and resulting income are your greatest financial asset; your human capital. It’s important to optimize it by nurturing and developing a purposeful career. On the other side of the coin, it’s important to live within your means and align your spending with your values. Properly managing your cash flow is one of the greatest contributors to your financial success. Lastly, financial planning isn’t about a static plan someone puts together for you. The true value is in the ongoing process. It’s crucial to find a planner you trust to take great care of you and continue working with them to ensure your plan evolves with your ever-changing life. These themes guide us in our work.

Your Personal Trainer
I help driven, passionate professionals achieve & maintain financially fit and balanced lifestyles. My name is Chris Brown, and I’m a Certified Financial Planner™. My goal is to help you leverage your human capital and properly manage your finances to balance your lifestyle and allow you to enjoy your life today, and in the future.
I’ve always felt you should have a great sense of pride and purpose in anything you do. That feeling brought me to the United States Military Academy at West Point to start my education. My short time there, surrounded by some of the most driven, passionate people I’d ever met, instilled a great deal of purpose in me. I knew I wanted to help these kinds of people live their best life, but how? That purpose pulled me into financial planning.
The next few years I learned the hard way about the value of balancing your financial life so you can accomplish your long-term goals and still enjoy your life today. Combined, my wife, Amy, and I financed and worked to pay for our education, experiencing negative cash flow for eight years. But through proper management of our finances and leveraging our human capital, we were still able to enjoy those years. Our drive and passion for the work we were doing and would be doing in the future is what helped us succeed through that time. With a balanced lifestyle, I have the free time and cash flow to do the things I love: traveling, reading, being physically active, and spending time with my friends and family in Knoxville, TN.
I enjoy working with others who share a similar drive and passion in their own careers and want to help them leverage that sense of purpose. Managing your health and human capital to prolong your working years and maximize your earning potential can allow you to save less and spend more on your current lifestyle. Summed up: work hard, play hard. If you love what you do and can’t imagine doing anything else, just like me, then you are a master in the art of living, and this style of financial planning is tailor-made for you.
